Rachael Regains running confidence Post Birth
Read her story
Rachael completed the Sheffield half marathon and achieved a Personal Best, shaving 30 seconds off her Pre-Pregnancy time.
Why did you choose Kate Campbell Fitness?
I chose Kate Campbell Fitness as Kate was a Midwife, and it was the only antenatal class I saw that sounded like it encouraged pregnant women to work hard to stay strong! I didn’t fancy gentle yoga as I wanted to keep my current fitness level, but with support to do it safely.
My original goal was to stay fit and strong through my pregnancy, which I did.
After giving birth, I wanted to feel stronger than I did before I was pregnant and to get back to running.
After a difficult birth and a complicated recovery, all I could think about was how my body had failed!
Postpartum recovery knocked me both physically and emotionally, and Kate, you played a massive part in getting me back on my feet. You always seem to know when I needed gentle encouragement, a reality check, some tough love or a hard workout.
Coming to the gym, being safely pushed by you and encouraged by the other gym members, meant I could think about my capabilities. It made me feel proud of myself and helped me focus on my potential.
I will always be grateful for the joy your gym brought to my postpartum journey.
How was your experience and your wins?
Kate's Keep Mums Fit Program and ongoing support have been phenomenal. I am fitter, slimmer, and stronger than I was before I was pregnant, and I'm a much more confident person. Personal training and regular gym sessions have helped me regain my strength for running and have also shown me how to effectively train my upper body.
I went from being unable to lift anything and being a complete beginner at the gym to confidently working out alone.
After having my daughter, I couldn’t run for 20 minutes without hip, knee and back pain. I’ve just run a half marathon and finished smiling with a PB 30s faster than pre-pregnancy!
Would you recommend Keep Mums Fit?
Yes, I recommend Keep Mum's Fit to every pregnant person I meet in Sheffield!!
I loved the pregnancy classes, I loved the tips for birth, I needed the postnatal foundation course more than I realised, and I have loved being a member of the gym. The support of the staff whenever I visit and their willingness to entertain my daughter has been unreal.
Having the flexibility to take my baby to the gym and having staff who understand postnatal fitness was a lifesaver for me while I was on maternity leave.
I encouraged Rachael to do Couch to 5 K and allow herself to alternate between walking and running, which significantly improved the next phase of her progression.
It may seem boring, but for post-birth mums, starting slowly by walking and running at a comfortable pace, assessing progress, and gradually increasing the challenge is essential.
Our bodies have an incredible ability to heal, but without a slow and steady approach, issues like weakness, heaviness, leakage, and hip pain can set someone back for months.
Rachael trusted the program, and after months of training, despite the rolling hills of Sheffield, she completed the half-marathon and achieved a personal best. WELL DONE, RACHAEL.
